I teamed up with colleague Maria Coryell-Martin of Expeditionary Art to create the Pacific Northwest Palette. Maria creates mini-palettes perfect for plein air outings when it’s important to keep materials compact. The Pacific Northwest demi-palette of 8 colors is perfect for our favorite northwest places: coastal landscapes and interior mountain forests. We even added Daniel Smith’s glittering Fuchsite for the glacial hues of Diablo Lake in North Cascades National Park! I wrote a comprehensive guide to palettes for western places in my book Colors of the West: An Artist’s Guide to Nature’s Palette—you can find more information about colors there. Be sure to visit Maria’s inspiring website, designed by her partner, Darin, for great ideas plus other palettes and artist toolkits.
