Re-Visit & Paint the National Parks Remotely!

ColorsOfTheWest_WEB.jpg

Now that we are all at home doing our best to flatten the curve of virus transmission, I thought it might be a good time to write about how much time I spent at home drawing and painting after my trips to national parks—time sifting through photographs, selecting my favorites, sometimes synthesizing elements of many different photos. Plein air painting doesn’t always summarize an experience. Often you need to revisit sketches, or create something altogether new from your memory and photos. When I do this, I re-live many of my happiest and most beautiful adventures. It’s a way to extend those precious moments. I hope all of you can find a way to do that, too. If you are looking for tips and techniques for sketching and painting landscapes, trees, wildlife and birds, take a look at my books Colors of the West: An Artist’s Guide to Nature’s Palette, and Birds of the West: An Artist’s Guide from Mountaineers Books.
